Creating a Skin

As I said before, the first thing you need is an idea. For this project, I have chosen to create Peter Criss, the drummer for the rock band KISS. Through a search of the web, I found several good pictures of Peter Criss, including face shots, various costumes, and pictures suitable for menu art.

To begin editing, open Paint Shop Pro 5.0 (or another suitable image-editing program.

Now, open the image files you have collected.
Choose File from the drop-down menu and select Open...

Choose the files you downloaded, and click the Open button.

Remember, you need face shots (both front and side) and images of the costume(s) you want to create.

We need to choose a model. Peter Criss has straight shoulder-length hair, and this is an important factor in selecting an appropriate model. We have several models to choose from - Hart, Sting, Savage, Riggs, and Sick Boy are all good choices. I have decided to use Randy Savage as the model basis for Peter Criss.

Here is what the Savage skin looks like before any editing. He is standing across from the Gene Simmons skin I created. The Gene Simmons skin was made using DDP as a model.

After each change made when editing the skin, we will check the appearance in the game before proceeding to the next step.
